چکیده
In this paper, we propose a two-layer framework of jlow control in high-speed A TM wide area networks. At the upper layer of network level, we classify trafic into two categories, delaysensitive and delay-insensitive. With the advancement of perVC queueing in ATM switch design, we propose peak-rate allocation and therefore no jlow control for delay-sensitive traffic, and hop-by-hop credit-based j70w control for delay-insensitive trafic. At the lower layer of node level, we introduce a cell scheduling algorithm which has the capability of multiplexing two types of trafic and satisfying diverse delay and loss requirements from the upper layer,

End–to–End Flow Control Algorithms for High Speed Data Transmission over ATM
This paper compares three different methods for controlling data flow over high speed wide area networks. It presents a novel mechanism that measures the exact receiver capabilities in order to improve the rate based flow control algorithm. Unlike standard protocols like TCP/IP with their credit based flow control, the new protocol DSTP uses this special rate based scheme. With additional optim...
متن کاملCredit-Flow-Controlled ATM versus Wormhole Routing
ATM has been adopted as the main high speed technology in both wide and local area networks. When ATM is combined with credits −the flow control mechanism that is particularly suitable for local data communication− it becomes appropriate for multiprocessor interconnection networks as well. Actually, credit-flowcontrolled ATM has similarities with wormhole routing, one of the most popular archit...
متن کاملFirst-order rate-based flow control with dynamic queue threshold for high-speed wide-area ATM networks
In this paper we present a new rate-based flow control scheme for ATM ABR services and analyze its performance. The proposed algorithm, which we refer to as First-order Rate-based Flow Control (FRFC) is the most simple form of queue-length-based flow control. The asymptotic stability, the steady-state throughput, queue length and fairness, and the transient behavior are analyzed for the case of...
متن کاملUsing Measurements to Validate Simulation Models of TCP/IP over High Speed ATM Wide Area Networks
Predicting the performance of high speed wide area ATM networks (WANs) is a difficult task. Evaluating the performance of these systems by means of mathematical models is not yet feasible. As a result, the creation of simulation models is usually the only means of predicting and evaluating the performance of such systems. In this paper, we use measurements to validate simulation models of TCP/I...
